Lawrence Goldfarb (Larry Goldfarb) was born in The Bronx, New York on November 21, 1958. He is an American hedge fund manager, and CEO and founder of LRG Capital Group and a board member and co-founder of AutismAid. He is also the founder of the Lawrence Goldfarb Judicial Reform Foundation and Criminal Justice Partners. Additionally, he owns LRG Racing, which competes in the American Federation of Motorcyclists.
Education:
Lawrence Goldfarb grew up in the Bronx New York and thereafter Queens New York and attended Forest Hills High School. After high school, Lawrence Goldfarb received his B.A. in International Economics at George Washington University. He graduated in 1981.
After receiving his B.A., Goldfarb graduated from Georgetown University Law School in 1984, receiving his Juris Doctor degree as cum laude. He also wrote for the Georgetown Law Journal.
Career:
Lawrence Goldfarb started his career as an attorney for Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy. Afterwards, he continued his career as an attorney with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, specializing in financing, mergers and recapitalizations. After his time there, Lawrence Goldfarb moved to San Francisco and became a Partner and Director of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Credit Suisse First Boston Corporation representing clients such as Cisco, Microsoft and Intel.
Through his experience at Credit Suisse as a Technology Investment Banker, Goldfarb formed the Hegde Fund BayStar Capital Management, LLC in 1998, which specialized in funding publicly traded technology and biotechnology companies. Lawrence Goldfarb funded and invested in an array of companies such as World Online, XM Satellite Radio, Sirius Radio, MySpace, VirtualScopics, GlasshouseTechnologies, ViroPharma, Peer and Napster. Goldfarb was regarded as the foremost investor and expert in equity private investment in public equity also known as PIPE transactions, a transaction structure in which he invested over $1.5 Billion dollars in total equity capital.
Thereafter Goldfarb sold Baystar Capital to Stark Investments and SDS Capital and founded LRG Capital Group to focus on private investing in venture capital and real estate where he founded and funded the Magna Real Estate Fund. Goldfarb was also an Associate Professor in Financial Arbitrage at the Hass School of Business Master’s of Financial Engineering at University of California, Berkeley.
Philanthropy:
Currently, Goldfarb who has an autistic son is the West Coast Director and a board member of AutismAid. AutismAid is dedicated to helping and fundraising for other autism non-profit’s. He is also an active member of many San Francisco Bay-Area based charities. He helped start the Joe Toucan Diabetes Project which uses a Joe Toucan doll, books and a variety of other products to assist in funding pediatric diabetes research and education. Goldfarb was thereafter awarded The American Diabetes Association’s Father of the Year Award in 2010 and has dedicated his philanthropic efforts to autism and diabetes. He also serves on the boards of various other organizations and non-profits.
In 2014, Goldfarb plead guilty to one count of wire fraud relating to his investments in two intercompany investments made by LRG Capital Group. Thereafter, through his experience with the American criminal justice system and its inequities especially towards the poor and minorities, Goldfarb has focused his efforts on helping those caught up in a corrupt and unjustifiable criminal justice system in America and formed the Judicial Reform Foundation and Criminal Justice Partners and has worked tirelessly to help those who cannot afford adequate legal representation in a system that favors the rich and powerful over the poor and disadvantaged. Personal Life:
Goldfarb is an avid jazz pianist and spends his spare time playing in various jazz bands and venues throughout the country. In his spare time he holds workshops teaching under privileged children piano and music theory. Before leaving San Francisco, Goldfarb was on the Board of the Blue Bear School of Music.
